open source / open philosophy
I feel we have become so far removed from understanding the inner workings of the technology we use everyday. This has become the biggest reason I run Linux and self-host. I am constantly learning something new that opens my eyes to the reality of the technology controlling us. Open source isn’t just about free software; it’s about the freedom to learn, modify, and truly own your computing environment.
My homelab is a true laboratory. Each service I self-host and every ZFS pool I manage teaches me something new about system administration, networking, and infrastructure. This isn’t just about avoiding subscription fees—it’s about understanding and taking control of the technology shaping our modern world.
Documentation matters not just for others, but for future me who will inevitably forget why I did certain things, like ‘where did I put that config file?’, or ‘was that systemd service system wide or a user service?’, etc. This site is an attempt at this documentation, open for all to see.
